Within the numerous runners of this year´s Berlin Half Marathon there was also a team of ProCom GmbH to be seen. The twelve enthusiastic hobby runners needed a time of between one hour, 36 minutes and two hours, 39 minutes for the 21,097 km-long distance along Berlin´s major landmarks. The good results were mainly due to an intensive training, which the sportsmen have been accomplishing for nine weeks under the guidance of a triathlon professional.
In order to cross the German capital at a running pace, the team had to perform a nine week long training programme, designed by Cologne´s triathlon professional Till Schramm. The 26-year old endurance expert not only designed a special exercise schedule, he also trained the group personally. Three times a week, various running techniques, strength exercises and the benefits of a healthy diet were on the programme.
On Sunday, the 1st of April the time had come. With the starting shot at 10:45 on the Karl-Marx-Alle the ProCom-experts had to prove their mobility skills, for a change. Crowded by professional runners and numerous recreational athletes the ProCom-employees fought their way from the Berlin Cathedral through the Brandenburg Gate to the Charlottenburg Palace and further to the Kurfürstendamm. With more or less attention for the tourist attractions, past the Memorial Church and over the Potsdamer Platz, they finally reached the goal at the Red Town Hall. The ProCom-running group felt little of the long distance runner´s so often-quoted loneliness, as approximately 250.000 viewers enjoyed an entertaining framework programme with music bands and performance artists. „The marathon showed how much team spirit and commitment we have. The run was a full success and it has been a great feeling to be part of the crew“, says Andreas Nolden, Managing Director at ProCom GmbH.
Vattenfall Berlin Half Marathon
With almost 30.000 participants from 100 different nations the Vattenfall Berlin Half Marathon, taking place every spring, has become one of the biggest and most popular half marathons of the world. The Berlin Half Marathon has an interesting historic background. Appropriate running events have already existed in the former West- and East-Berlin: the Half Marathon in West-Berlin since 1984 and the since 1981 existing East-Berlin Friedenslauf, which were both combined shortly after the turn in 1990 to a joint run. Since 2001 Vattenfall has become the official title sponsor of the popular event.
